Your building should handle that. My coop sent a letter annually to ensure we all had them. I believe that is the law. [ Reply | More

Your building should do it for free but you can also buy these little dojiggies (don’t know the name) to put on your windows which keep them from opening really wide. You can get them at the hardware store for a few dollars each. [ Reply | More

It is absolutely NYC law--your building is required to install, whether you want them or not, if you have a child under 10. My co-op installed when my son was less than 3 months old. [ Reply | More

I paid $200 for Baby Bodyguards (local company) to install them, not counting materials, because I had a deadbeat landlord and was renting the whole brownstone at the time. (That was a period in our lives where we had tons of cash and no spare time - it's the opposite now and we are much happier.) Guardian Angel brand is great. [ Reply | More
