My daughter has a red mark behind her ear. It started like a pimple, then got bigger and itchy like a mosquito bite. Then, it got smaller, then back to mosquito bite size yesterday. Today, she developed a lump next to it (like a swollen lymph node about a 1/4 of an inch away). It hurts. Any ideas? No fever, nausea nor rash. I can only think of a tick bite (we are in the woods, but I don't think the lump matches?) or staph? Experience? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I considered that. The lump is weirdly off to the side. I'm imagining those stories of spiders laying eggs in someone's skin. [ Reply | More ]

Those stories are stories. If she was bitten by a bug, her lymph node is reacting. Call the nurse at ped office. [ Reply | More ]

It could be a cyst that got infected. Try a hot compress on it and see if that does anything. [ Reply | More ]

Doesn't sound like a tick. There are some weird gnats biting this summer. Call ped for virtual visit - you'll feel much better. [ Reply | More ]
