My kid is finishing eighth grade. Since there is no graduation this year he already received his diploma, but the teachers are still assigning graded work every day. Whats the point? Its so stupid, just so the teachers can justify what they're doing I guess? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

It is pretty pointless. Many schools and teachers, especially the traditional ones, lose sight of what education is and can’t think much beyond grading. One of the best teachers my kids had - still talk about it years later - was a social studies teacher who would interrupt the curriculum when there was a major event and teach around the event: causes, consequences.
