You always have the best intel! Moving to SoCal in the Fall for work--Can someone please give me insights into Pasadena, San Marino & La Canada? We have three elementary school aged kids, mixed household (asian/white), and pretty liberal. Public schools preferred, but private is an option if need be. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

You'll fit in fine in any of those neighborhoods. San Marino is the most expensive and insular, in my opinion, and very good schools but lots of pressure. Pasadena is larger, very divers, not good public schools (I could recount a horror story about high school, not violent but inept). LaC is solidly UMC, good schools, but slightly farther away from downtown. Count on expensive housing in all of these communities. [ Reply | More ]

There are a ton of privates in Pasadena--because of desegregated bussing policies in the 70s it has one of the highest per cap rates of private schools. Competitive ones (Poly, for example) are very hard to get into and you can't need FA. [ Reply | More ]

Stay at least a mile from the 210 for noise and pollution reasons. [ Reply | More ]
