are people who moved out of nyc since March and planned to stay through the Fall changing their plans to come back earlier seeing that the likelihood of school starting in september is higher? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Not coming back. I understand Cuomo has issues the statement in camps but I don’t think that necessarily translates into schools opening and even if they do I think the risk of re-closure as high. I’m discouraged by the talk of other events being cancelled - Met Opera, delayed museum openings, etc. - as an indication of what the city will be like. [ Reply | More ]

If you move out of Manhattan until classes come back in person, let's say in January, do you lose your right to be at a public school? [ Reply | More ]

Our PS principal sent out a survey to see who was planning to return next fall and noted that if school was remote and people were hunkering outside of the city (as a large portion of our school's population is), that it was fine and they were welcome to attend from wherever they were. Now I don't know if this specifically includes folks who physically are changing their primary residence for good (i.e. pack up and sell the place). But I think as long as you still maintain an NYC address you are fine. That said, they literally have no way of proving or enforcing this over the three month period if you're already registered/enrolled in a school, so it's pretty much honor system. [ Reply | More ]

We are out of the city until september. If schools open up we'll come back then but not before. I don't believe they will open. [ Reply | More ]

Same. We will come back for in-person school. We're back right now to pick up some things and it is a ghost town. Nothing is open, even our local bodega is closed. I wanted to support so e local places while we're here but only the chains seem to be open. [ Reply | More ]

Lots of us live here FT (i.e. no second home to flee to) and most of our local small groceries/bodegas are open and many restaurants have been open throughout. It's not terrible. [ Reply | More ]

what makes you the likelihood of opening is higher? If anything, the protests are going to seed a second wave of outbreak. Identifying a new inflammatory syndrome for kids not helping. [ Reply | More ]

Public schools will open in Sept - will be a massive surge to re-open after entire summer with little to no covid cases, evidence globally of schools opening and kids not being at risk or carriers and large segments of our communities unable to function - feed children, work themselves - without schools open. Mistake of closure will be acknowledged (slowly) and eventually rectified by NY politicians who are already under incredible fire for incompetence. [ Reply | More ]
