Why is there so much more looting downtown (even in high income neighborhoods like soho) rather than Uptown? Plenty of high end stores on the UES but they’ve been untouched while Soho is burning. Is this a function of where the looters are coming from (Brooklyn?) [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I'm guessing here, but I would assume it's because downtown has a younger crowd who are more politically active and more likely to be protesting. [ Reply | More ]

there is more protesting downtown because it is adjacent to City Hall, Foley Square and other government offices where people usually protest. Soho is within a mile of that. [ Reply | More ]

Everywhere in the city and suburbs. And you do realize that Manhattan isn’t entirely white and rich, and that there are plenty of neighborhoods in brooklyn that are more expensive than manhattan, right? [ Reply | More ]

They are coming from everywhere. These are organized groups at this point who purposefully steal and have nothing to do with the protests. [ Reply | More ]

I think it's because uptown has more security and doormen. Many uptown buildings have hired extra security. On the UWS stores were broken into but police were right there. In Soho police are completely overwhelmed [ Reply | More ]
