Kid is currently in 4th grade at zoned public. Remote learning sucks and am worried about this continuing into next year. Considering packing up and moving somewhere outside of city so kid can have an in-person school year. How would admissions work for middle school come 6th grade? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Your child has to be in the city in 5th grade. That’s when middle school process begins. [ Reply | More ]

But what if you arrive in the summer? You can't just not send your kid to school. [ Reply | More ]

You can, but the most desirable schools will be full. What district are you in? [ Reply | More ]

if they move back for 6th she isn't excluded from sending hr kid to public school, they will just have more limited options. [ Reply | More ]

Sure you could get into Baruch, Wagner, etc. but maybe not their SP programs. [ Reply | More ]

I'm wondering the same. We are living in CT at our place here and would consider staying next year, but I have a 4th grader and a younger one. I wouldn't want to remove the 4th grader from the system if it disadvantages her in the middle school application process. I do wonder, if there will be some provision for 5th and 8th graders next year, considering that a lot of people are probably considering this very move. Also to answer your question below, I don't believe SP will exist if there's a move to lottery admissions, it would defeat the purpose. [ Reply | More ]

I don’t think there will be a provision for moving and coming back. That wreaks of entitlement. The optics would be bad. [ Reply | More ]

Yes, all the families who had the means to move get another advantage. Hmmm [ Reply | More ]

OR: How do you see an advantage for us here? I wouldn't be looking for special treatment in the lottery, just to enter it - I'm still an NYC taxpayer. [ Reply | More ]

If you live in the district and zone, you should be able to apply for MS and resign the ES one. [ Reply | More ]
