I am feeling so overwhelmed by pandemic and riots. I can’t watch the news anymore because I sit there and cry. How are you ladies coping? Tia. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I am fortunate to be in a position where I don't need to pay attention to the news. I can keep my head down and focus on my job and family. I think a lot about my friend who is a reporter, and has to deal with the news every single day. No escape. [ Reply | More ]

There are helicopters overhead when I try to sleep at night. There is no escape. [ Reply | More ]

Op: why do you say you don’t need to pay attention to the news? These riots are nationwide. Don’t you want to know what’s happening around you? That said, I’ve stopped watching the news because it’s making me anxious. These are such scary times. [ Reply | More ]

I say this with ... not love since I don't know you from Adam, but I say this with truly no rancor. You are very lucky that you can turn away from the news in order to take care of your anxiety. There are 1,000's of women who live not 3 miles from you who have to face it every day, all day, with no break. Not because they are reporters but because they are going out in the world or sending their children, husbands and brothers out into a very scary and dangerous world. [ Reply | More ]

Op: I’m a person of color and am deeply affected by this and deeply concerned about my dc so I need to keep myself together in order to keep my dc healthy during this difficult time. I am not watching the news but am choosing to read NPR only to keep myself informed. My brother lives not too far from where the looting and fires in the Bronx. He’s also still working outside the home. You shouldn’t make assumptions about posters. [ Reply | More ]

I check a local news website that covers just news from my town, but I'm in a suburb and we don't even have peaceful protests here, yet alone riots. It depresses me that there are huge riots in all of our big cities and I choose not to watch something depressing if I don't have to. [ Reply | More ]

Technically correct, but there are ways of speaking up that don't involve dangerous behavior during a pandemic. [ Reply | More ]

If OP "does not pay attention to the news" how is she aware of what is happening and speaking up? I agree we don't all have to be on the streets, that's what social media and online contributions are for. [ Reply | More ]

I'm feeling really overwhelmed and anxious too. I cried listening to Trump speak from the Rose Garden yesterday. He's basically declared war on us. [ Reply | More ]

Not one thing to help soothe anyone or anything. They tear gassed peaceful protesters so he could walk across the street to a church and take a goofy picture holding up a bible. [ Reply | More ]

Crying helps; going outside (masked) helps; listening to my friends helps, and thinking about the possibility for change helps. Also, I really liked the Trevor Noah piece if you haven't already seen it. [ Reply | More ]
