Until I reached almost early teenage years, I literally thought thunderstorms were caused by God bowling in the sky. When I was a child, I was scared of thunderstorms so my mom told me it was just God bowling and he had scored a strike, lol. I was embarrassed when my prof corrected me, but hey...some of these words dont necessarily pop up in every day conversation so less opportunities to say them out loud. I grew up in a very homogeneous, predominately Catholic town. My family wasn't Catholic, but literally everyone else I knew from my town was. I assumed this is how it was all across the country, if not the globe. I was shocked when I learned in jr high social studies that JFK was the first Catholic president. That a guy you date for 6 years in an exclusive relationship while both being madly in love with one another would of course lead to marriage even though he never talked about marriage. I learned English the sink or swim method. Went to Catholic school. Didn’t quite get phrases like “do you mind”- I though to answer yes was you can use it. The parish priest came to talk to our class. In the middle of his talk he asked if I minded if he used my pencil. I said yes. So he dropped it and turned to the next student.
