Every family member has a different colored bath towel. They also have an over the door rack (from the Container Store.) That person takes their towel to the bathroom when they bathe and then brings it back to their room and hangs it up over the rack to dry. Result? One or at the most, two bath towels to wash, per person, per week. BTW, it usually ends up being just one per person. [ Reply | More ]

How disgusting. You do know you are actually scraping off dead skin cells on the towel every time you use it. A couple of days, maybe. More than that you are just a pig. [ Reply | More ]

So--you rub yourself all over with dirt all week? Honestly...I am not going to wash the damn towels every time I use them--ridiculous waste of time and water. Once a week is plenty as long as they air dry properly. Has anyone used those waffle-weave towels? Kind of curious. [ Reply | More ]

Instacart.com I'm not sure if it's in NYC yet-we have it in Chicago. Groceries delivered in under 2 hours. You shop online, pick all the brands and products (and substitutes) you want and they go to the store you pick (we have six options here including costco!) and then select a delivery time. I have never needed the 2 hour time but it's nice to know it's an option. [ Reply | More ]

I helped him wrap his little gifts.. lots of times they're from a second hand store or he drew them himself or maybe we wrapped homemade cookies in a box and he gave that. it was more fun for him because he gets excited about giving as well as getting something. 3 DDs. They share a bedroom, and nothing is allowed in the bedroom that isn't for sleep - beds, linens in the closet, night tables, lamps, and bedtime books. Their clothes, toys, and games are in their playroom. We close the playroom door at 8pm and they get ready for bed, and are only allowed in their bathroom & bedroom after that. No, they don't have a tv. The tv is in the living room, where it belongs. As to your second question, I assume that was fast typing and you meant "one needs to do homework and one wants to play", and of course homework takes precedence, but they are close enough in age that this won't matter, as they will all start to get "real" homework around the same time. They will just learn to study with a few distractions. Like most people do. [ Reply | More ]

Haha, I thought no one would respond to this but it's true. On a day when I need to get a shit ton of housework done, this is what I do. Just one 5mg tablet, no big deal. I will haul furniture and paint and scour all day long. Just the effect it has on me. Yesterday was Saturday and you should have seen the ridiculous amount of work I got done. I cleaned out an entire 3 car garage. [ Reply | More ]

I make everyone get up on weekends, half an hour earlier than we get up on weekdays. It makes Monday mornings so much easier to manage, and we get a lot more done on weekends (fun things). (I do not expect to be able to do this once DCs are in high school.) [ Reply | More ]

Throw out the crap people. My rule is, if I pick something off the floor two times, the third time it goes into the garbage or thrift store. Same for stuff lost under the bed. NP. [ Reply | More ]

During weekly pick up your stuff session, if anything is left on the table, sofa, floor, it goes to the donation box. DC gets 1 chance of rescuing an item from this donation box (usually by doing something extra) but even before that, DC runs to clean stuff before I get to them. We started this when DC was 3. DC is now in 1st grade and knows how to clean up after self. Wish my MIL did this to DH. [ Reply | More ]
