Lasagna is so not impressive. And so not a summer meal. [ Reply | More ]

You don't serve anything else on the plate with lasagna. Place piece of lasagne in center of plate, pour over a little extra sauce and fresh grated parm cheese, add parsley or basil garnish on the border of the plate. [ Reply | More ]

And if you want to be fancy you can put the sauce in a squirt bottle first and make a design on the plate before you place the lasgana on it. Like a pniwheel or zigzag design. [ Reply | More ]

I make my lasagna from scratch/fresh ingredients. I roll out the pasta, I get fresh ricotta and fresh, home made mozzarella. It is very impressive. (I'll give you not a summer meal) [ Reply | More ]

ITA - Lasagna does not show well or is hard to make it so. If you insist on doing lasagna, I'd serve with a spinach salad in a bowl. [ Reply | More ]

agree. make a nice salad with goat cheese, nuts, fruit, and then make a fruit cobbler or crisp with ice cream for dessert. so tasty and pretty and looks effortless (actually is effortless). [ Reply | More ]

^^^not sort of. i *am* stuck. we are having lasagna. should i do a salad? some fish as a lowfat option? a soup as a first course? i want it to be nice but also don't want a bunch of disjointed foods. [ Reply | More ]

Lasagna is heavy so you want to keep everything else light. Do a nice salad--just greens and a few veggies--and maybe some grilled veggies on the side. Get a nice crusty bread and call it a day. [ Reply | More ]

My vegetarian friends say the Moosewood veggie lasagna is incredible. If fish is an option, I would try that... A shrimp lasagna -- damn that would be slamming! Or a mushroom lasagna. Marcella Hazan has a recipe in (I think) her second cook book for it. [ Reply | More ]

Then do an entire summer meal. Can you do a vegetable lasagna or does it have to be meat? Start the meal with a really ripe melon slice draped with excellent prosciutto. Then lasagna. Then salad. Nice dessert (like a tiramisu). Done. [ Reply | More ]

^^ oops... hit the reply to quicky... after the p & m serve a simple asparagus side or lemoned peas... something fresh and green and "clean" on the tongue since the lasag. is heavier... [ Reply | More ]

^^ and berries with port and a light meringue cookie for dessert... if everything is "light" the lasagne is the star and it won't seem too heavy or like you're trying too hard [ Reply | More ]

set yout table in the morning so you don't have to think about it... Ilike to use a one small *very low* arrangement of flowers or two or three really small things in tiny containers (mint julep cups ?) and then 1/2 a Xanax before the guests arrive ! The table early thing is a great thing though... [ Reply | More ]
