so dd was waitlisted at every school we applied to for K. looks like we're headed for public, which is ok...but thinking about re-applying to private for 1st grade (unlikely we'll get a place this year in any of the WL schools i'm afraid). should we wait to take ERB until later in the year? will it be necessary for app. if we're reapplying to the same schools that already got her results for K? Talk to your principal at your public K in October. You will get all the info you need for g&t for first grade. [ Reply | More

i did so much research, believe me. i toured all local public schools in our district, asked friends for recommendations for progressive public and private schools and toured + applied widely. met w/ PSD on various occasions, and she never talked about public school options at all. we didn't know G&T programs existed or that there were tests we could have had dd take until it was too late. it's not like you automatically know everything about NYC schools as soon as you become a parent. i don't know anyone personally who had their kids take these tests. most of our friends are still childless or have new babies. Yes ERb is a requirement for 1st in private and you cannot use old ERB. I'd take it over the summer becuase starting K is rough for some kids and you may have emotional issue to deal with. [ Reply | More

BTDT...yep yo need new ones for every application season. In 2nd grade, they add a reading comprehension test; in 6th grade it switches to an achievement test. [ Reply | More
