i had a hernia in my stomach when i was pregnant - i ended up having a c-section (not bc of the hernia). i haven't had a check up lately but the doctors said not to worry about it. my stomach feels like it won't get back into shape though. has anyone ever had this? does it repair quickly? any advice? i foudn out i have an umbilical hernia a few months ago. my dd is almost 2, i think it happened during pregnancy or was exacerbated by the pregnancy. i've seen 2 doctors and they both said that i should ultimately have it repaired. i'm putting off the surgery because i am constantly picking up my toddler, and the recovery requires 6 weeks with no heavy lifting. i too have a belly, and if i exercise my abs i feel the hernia. I just had my umbilical hernia repaired 20 months pp. My doc said no lifting for 2 weeks - really hard with a toddler. It's been a month now and I'm pretty much completely healed. Only hurts if DB elbows me in the tummy. [ Reply | More

i felt a hard bump above my belly button one day after i had been working out my abs at the gym. it felt kind of sore. that was basically some tissue pushing through the hole that is the hernia. it went back eventually. the danger is that the hernia will get bigger, and that your intestines can get caught in there causing the tissue to die. that is a medical emergency.
