I think it's a school that is very sincere in its efforts, really wants to bring all parents on board, give the kids what they need. But some of the kids' parents aren't as involved as they'd like. The white middle class in this neighborhood has tended to stay away--in my opinion it's because there's a large minority population and they don't want their kids to be one of the few white kids in the class. I think that will change if zoned white people have to attend. It's a great school--with incredible diversity. It just needs some upper middle class white parents to sign on to change its reputation to be one of the top public schools. Just my opinion having lived in this neighborhood for many years--and I am also one of those white parents who didn't send her kid there, but that's because dc got into an excellent G&T.
