My personal view is that women short-change themselves on so many fronts: at home with their spouses, at work in looking for new jobs/opportunities, etc. -- if we were tougher like men, we'd have more equality in pay, men would do more at home (like housework, organization of kids' stuff, etc) AND would be more equal partners. It's up to US to read men the Riot Act (if we must) and then leave them if they don't make positive changes. Why sell ourselves short? Too many women don't insist men do their fair share, repeat the cycle of their MILs spoiling them, AND kids suffer by not seeing equality between their own parents. I wish there were a way to help girls and women be stronger. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

No, it's because we are SOCIALIZED to be demure and not stand up for ourselves, to settle with x pay when getting a job offer when men think, "OK, great, let's start negotiating". [ Reply | More ]

my dh does plenty around the house, but I actually enjoy the domestic stuff much more than my career. I wish I had more time for it. [ Reply | More ]

I do expect all that you described above, and I get it, too. It's not always easy, but it's worth it to ask for what you want. It's also fair to your partner to be clear about what you need and not resentful. [ Reply | More ]
