gag me--I was on a group playdate today and needed to listen to one of the moms go on and on about how her DD only got about 4 wrong on the OLSAT and how unfair it was that there was a lottery this year instead of using scores like they did last year because her child would have definitely gotten Anderson (she knows my kid is in contention too). Doesn't she realize that all the scores did last year was qualify you for the second round and in effect the 2nd round served as this year's lottery? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I'm sure she's just focused on her DC's chances this year, as you are. 2nd round was the opposite of lottery; they got to pick kids based on which kids seemed easiest to teach and/or filled out the sex/age/race balance of the class. [ Reply | More ]

op: right, but my point was that her child was no more guaranteed last year than this year. The DOE changes its policies every year and it is the luck of the draw whether the policy will help or hurt her. She is in fact being helped by this policy in that it is only the 99s that likely have a chance at Anderson, whereas in past years lower scores had an equal chance. [ Reply | More ]

Also last year the bar to get to the second round was lower. [ Reply | More ]

What's annoying to me are the pp that even talk about the dc score. They are 4 for god's sake. What's the BFD about what they scored and how much they got right/wrong. My dd did great and other than her pre-school teachers and my dh I didn't tell anyone about her score. [ Reply | More ]

If she got over a 97, and people in your neighborhood ask where she's going to school next year, how do you finesse that? [ Reply | More ]

np; You say, we are still waiting on the G&T results. No one has asked me what shcools I ranked. I didn't even tell my DS's teachers that he got a 99 let alone another parent. [ Reply | More ]

I will share what we have ranked when asked, but have not shared score except to one person who asked me point blank what it was [ Reply | More ]

I guess you don't care about this person at all since I have a feeling a mom like that would be on UB and can easily ID herself in your post.. [ Reply | More ]

maybe she will learn how offensive she is being. I am with the op above--my child scored 99.9 on sb and got into both Hunter and Anderson and we never shared anything with anyone (beyond immediate family) other than where she ultimately went to school. [ Reply | More ]

well, you are just infinitely better than her aren't you? get over yourself, and stop being so judgemental and harsh. this woman does feel wronged. she was told the highest scores get the top spots and now that has become a lottery. I can see why that might be frustrating and worrisome to her. that you compare it to your behavior in terms of dealing with your brilliant kid who got in everywhere just goes to show what a comptitve beeyotch lacking in empathy that you are. oh please...every year they change the rules and you just have to play what ever card is dealt that year. A lot of 97s and 98s feel "wronged" because in any other year they would have an equal chance of getting in. if my kid were applying this year with her 99.9 I would be stuck with the same lottery, but I still wouldn't be announcing my score to the whole world and tearing my garments in mourning about the unfairness of it all. I doubt you would not have any of these feelings if the cards you had been dealt were like those of the playdate parent. maybe you wouldn't have been as vocal, but you would have felt some of the same sentiments for sure. if your 99.9 kid ended up at zoned public due to a lottery, you would have been unhappy, if not worried. you were lucky, others are not. its the way it goes but certainly understandable that someone is upset. op: but does that give her the right to publicly tell others that her child is more deserving than a "lesser 99" when she knows there is another one sitting in the same room? [ Reply | More ]
