wwyd? 47 yo dh simply refuses to get life insurance, or really, to deal with any of life's important and necessary issues. i've had my life insurance for 4 yrs, and have been bugging him (gently, i must admit) to get it all along. i'm really fed up at this point. i have tried talking about it, i've cried about it, i'we have 2 dc, age 4 and 2. if we both die today, my sister will get my life insurance 1.5mm to raise them for the next 20 years. not enough. don't tell me to sign him up b/c he will refuse to see the dr, and i think he has to sign the form anyway. i've let him know how worried i am. but he refuses to move it forward. it's really making me feel unprotected in a very serious way. i am thinking of upping my life insurance to 4mm just so the kids will have enough to live on for the next 20 years if we both die, but of course, i will still be sol if dh dies. we've had our difficulties in this marriage, and this is starting to feel like a decision point for me. advice, please! tia. I think that refusing to participate in the process of obtaining life insurance is a pretty serious comment on the lack of investment in both the partnership of marriage and the responsibilities of parenting. I'm sorry. [ Reply | More ]

i think you should up your own then if you will be financially solvent if he dies. just do that and tell him. you can';t control him but you can take control of things you do. [ Reply | More ]

Make an appointment with an estate lawyer and have them talk about why it's important and if and how much you can afford to dedicate to life insurance. Unless he has some deep-seeded issues about it, it should be simple. [ Reply | More ]

getting him to our family attny for our wills was another 4-year process. we just got that done. i can ask our attny to talk to him about it, but it just seems like it will piss him off even more. i guess i'm just going to really have to raise the stakes here and nag the cr@p out of him. just not what i want to do. How about giving him a simple, written document that just spells out what would happen to you and your children if he were to die? [ Reply | More ]
