I was just reading the long discussion about schools. It could not have come at a better time for me. I was debating switching to a private school. But I think you are right whoever wrote that if the kids have a solid home with high expectations and in a decent school they will succeed. Going to a top private school does not ensure happiness just like getting into the ivies does not. I am in a constant battle with myself to just go with the flow or keep looking for something better for my kids. Right now Im staying in our not so perfect public school. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

PS - so glad we moved out of the city. I miss it a little but I don't miss all the craziness about schools. Seems like such misdirected energy. [ Reply | More ]

so true, so true. also moved out of the City but were in top zoned area --- the space, fresh air and smaller class size make it well worth it. [ Reply | More ]

I get what you are saying and agree somewhat but I do believe that education is undeniably tied to socio-economic issues and it goes beyond the home. The better, more qualified and motivated teachers are usually found in the more affluent areas. [ Reply | More ]
