I'm the Roosevelt Island poster from before and just logged back on. I have made the trip to Anderson three times now on public transportation (Open House, OLSAT test, Tour); once with dc and twice w/o and each time it took less than 40 minutes (F 3 stops, D 2 stops, then the 1). ALSO the DOE provides busing from the tram stop. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

why don't you just move close to Anderson or even SW Harlem where there is some great housing? seems awful to put a child through all that. they are so darn young!!!! [ Reply | More ]

OP: I had to commute from downtown to UES for school as a child. It is not a big deal if your kid is used to subway rides. Really. [ Reply | More ]

horrendous. the subway is a stinking, stagnant germ fest and so many parents are selfish. you are in NYC because YOU want to be, not because it's better for your child. better to at least move closer to the school [ Reply | More ]

I was born and raised here - rode the subway my whole life. Commuted from K-12. I am healthy, love NYC and could not imagine living anywhere else. I want my dc to have the same experiences I did growing up. Why do you live here if you are so afraid? [ Reply | More ]

np. lol Not all of our dc are delicate little flowers who can't endure a couple of daily subway rides. Keep on hothousing your dc and s/he'll turn out a neurotic, prissy little twit just like mom. [ Reply | More ]

Busing from the trap stop sounds doable. I'd try it out and then reevaluate your options (moving house, moving school) later on. [ Reply | More ]

OP: Well, I was flamed for saying we would commute, but I was not around to defend myself. [ Reply | More ]

of course not. she is lying. at any rate, even with her calculations, her kid is in for an hour and 20 minutes of commute daily. I would say 2 hrs personally, but either way, it is just not worth it for elementary school. [ Reply | More ]

another RIer here who's done her share of commuting to Anderson. OP is right. It is a smooth and short ride. I usually stay on the D all the way to 86th Street and walk the few blocks, though. [ Reply | More ]

I don't know. I used to live in those Manhattan apt. complexes on RI. Leave my apt and walk to the subway - 10 min, including elevator, walk and getting down to the subway. Wait for F and get to 42nd St., 25 min total. Walk 2 blocks to work, 5 min. Total was 40 min at the very least. I always knew when Monica Pergeman came on to do the business report on NY1 at 8:17 that if I didn't leave at that minute exactly, I would be late for work. Can't imagine that a tranfer to the D and walk to the school would fit within 40 min, but hey, we're considering a 45 min. commute to NEST, so I don't blame you. [ Reply | More ]

You did the open house and the tour? You weren't supposed to do the tour if you had already seen the school. Cheater! [ Reply | More ]
