OK -- I need a reality check. I was standing in line @ Barnes & Noble w/ my 2 1/2/ yr. old son to buy a book. I was talking to him to keep him still and not agitated while in line. He did not scream or anything. This woman behind me says to me, "Can I talk softer" because her 3 month old was sleeping. I was speaking in a normal tone of voice. I said that I was in a public space and that I was simply having a conversation with my son. She went on to say that I didn't know how to take care of my son, how I was selfish because I wouldn't comply, with her request etc. It became a screaming match. I am still agitated by her pushiness and judgmental comments. Was she out of line? Obviously I think so! [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

She was out of line to ask but you should not have gotten involved and gotten in a screaming match. [ Reply | More ]

OP: You are so right about that. I regret it, but she wouldn't shut up. She was right behind me and kept egging me on. But I wish I had shown more self-control. [ Reply | More ]

Next time just say "I will do my best." then ignore anything else she says. I once got yelled at by a hysterical woman because my dd was eating almonds in her stroller in bloomingdales and her child might have been allergic, and that letting dd eat nuts in public was no different than driving drunk near a school at dismissal time. You cannot let the nuts suck you in! [ Reply | More ]

She did, and the lady got even more annoyed and judgmental. I was so upset my hands were shaking at the counter. [ Reply | More ]

Was this in NYC. I swear the NY moms think their parenting experience is sooo unique. Meanwhile, there are 350 new moms pushing snug rides, get over it. If he's going to wake up because of voices, better get used to it. [ Reply | More ]

Absolutely in NYC. It's not all NYC moms, just a particular type --the entitled ones! [ Reply | More ]
