What's the deal with street parking and the biweekly street cleaning? Do people actually hire somebody to sit in the car on those days? Also, isn't the whole moving car to the other side of the street while the cleaner goes through and moving back to your old spot nerve wrecking? I can imagine how somebody would just swoop in and "steal" your spot or cars blocking each other etc. etc. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

There is no "your" spot on NYC street parking. Anyone who tells you otherwise is an ass. [ Reply | More ]

so, it is more a variation of survival of the fittest? Once the cleaner goes through it's everyone on her own to get some parking spot? That makes it even worse. [ Reply | More ]

It varies but the general rule (UNOFFICIAL RULE) is if double parking is "allowed" in your neighborhood then you double park before the deadline and stay in/with your car until the dealine. If you are boxing someone in, leave a cell phone number on your dashboard. Then ten minutes before alt side ends, move your car to the about to become legal side. Usually this courtesy is allowed only on one way streets without schools or firehouses. Do not be late moving back! That ticket is more. [ Reply | More ]

it's not all that complicated and works just fine if you SAH/WAH/are a student, etc. and can give up 30-60 minutes twice a week. [ Reply | More ]

NP: So once the street cleaner is out of the way, does that mean it is safe to park? You'd still have to sit in the car up to the alloted time, right? [ Reply | More ]

there was a guy in my old neighborhood who would move everyone's car on the block. if you don't have someone like that you just have to find a place where you don't need to move the car. [ Reply | More ]

That's assuming there ARE spots to move the cars to. [ Reply | More ]

Everyone's car? How so? It's going to take forever and while he is moving back the first car 10 new cars would have taken the spots on the now cleaned side. What would he do with the cars he cannot put back? [ Reply | More ]
