Please help. DD just turned 2 and for the past week has been refusing her nap. So now she goes to bed at 6.45 and sleeps until 8.30ish. Which sounds lovely, but she is exhausted and cranky in the late afternoon. WWYD? She's not fussy in her crib, she is just talking and playing and she won't fall asleep. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

maybe try putting her down 15-20 minutes earlier - before she gets to the cranky stage? [ Reply | More ]

I tried that yesterday and no luck. I'm hoping it's just a phase and she'll get out of it soon. Kids don't give up naps this early, do they? (please say no) [ Reply | More ]

generally no, they don't give up naps this early. as the poster below said, a later nap and a later bedtime might work. it's probably just a phase. [ Reply | More ]

What time is her nap? Maybe try a later nap with a later bedtime. My 2yo hardly ever naps anymore and when he does it's around 3pm with bedtime at 8pm. [ Reply | More ]

Now 2.5 but stopped napping regularly when he turned 2yo (was a great napper before then). Maybe try watching what time she starts to get cranky and put her to bed a little earlier than this the next day. My ds will never nap on days when he has been to class or done lots of activities in the morning. [ Reply | More ]

well, one think to make sure you do is remove all toys that are in her general area (except blankie/softie or whatever), next is to remove stimuli that could be keeping her awake (exciting pictures in her eye path). Next, wait awhile, it could be a phase. If it continues you might want to try taking her out in the car and seeing if that puts her to sleep, then parking at your home and reading a book in the car. I wish I could do that! She has never slept in the car (lucky me) and she has a younger sister who does nap, so we are home bound. I've taken all the toys away too. I'm really hoping it's a phase . . although the idea of sitting a reading a book in my car sounds delightful! [ Reply | More ]
