just thought I'd weigh in. everyone seems to think hunter is preferred by everyone, and we don't prefer it. just another perspective. Think dc would fit better at anderson in the early years [ Reply | More ]

Your dc would do better in a more traditional setting? For many with the real choice, though, the HS outweighs most everything else. [ Reply | More ]

not completely sure about the issue of traditional vs progressive, but i am leaning toward traditional. I just think the description of the kids at anderson sound like my dc. hunter is a great school, i am sure, but anderson just clicked for me. may not get it, but it feels the most like a fit [ Reply | More ]

np: feel hunter's biggest draw is the k-12 aspect. otherwise we would prefer anderson as well. uwsers, btw [ Reply | More ]

A lot of people also feel that Hunter is more "creative", has more arts and specials. [ Reply | More ]

hunter's art program is probably a bit more broad than anderson's (which is still pretty good, imo, especially in the lower grades), but otherwise, the specials offered are comparable. btw, for all the talk about how anderson is so traditional, it doesn't really seem that way to me. in the lower grades especially, it seems very creative and child-centered. Why didn't dc apply? [ Reply | More ]

complicated reason, but ultimately decided against it. the funny thing is, when you don't apply to a school, you really don't get that engaged with the idea of it. sort of like people who did not apply to a given private. its just not on your radar [ Reply | More ]

People who aren't engaged with the idea of a school, who don't have it on their radar, don't start threads about not applying to the school. So you can say it's true until you're blue in the face, but I'm not buying it. There's some wrinkle you're not disclosing. [ Reply | More ]

np: c'mon...what's your basis for such suspicion. You know as well as I that often Anderson and Hunter come up in the same sentence. That she has opinions doesn't mean OP HAD to have applied to Hunter. You need an opinion to actively decide to apply or not to apply to ANY school. [ Reply | More ]

I know people who didn't apply because of sibling issue or commute. there are many out there like OP. [ Reply | More ]

np. I know people who didn't apply for those reasons, too. But OP claims she didn't apply because she read some things and heard some stuff from a couple of other parents that made her think Anderson might be a better fit for dc. WTF?? [ Reply | More ]

op didn't say why she didn't apply from my read of the posting. she said she didn't, and then went on to say she thought anderson sounded like a better fit. why all the suspicion? [ Reply | More ]

Oh. Well, how can you possibly say that you preferred A over H then? You didn't see it, you didn't talk to many parents with kids there...but whatever. [ Reply | More ]

what i am saying is that from what I do know, anderson sounds like a better fit, and although hunter is a very good option, we did not apply. what is so hard to understand or believe about that? [ Reply | More ]
General Topics 06.02.08, 08:25 PM Flag

Because no one but a moron wouldn't bother to apply simply because of what they'd heard second-hand about the school. If you had said you didn't apply because of its location or the lack of sib preference it would be understandable. But your explanation isn't believable at all. Sorry, but there you have it. information is limited for all schools we research and tour. I did not tour, but did everything but. I decided not to apply for a number of reasons, not because I found it to be a bad school. In comparing H and A, I found A to be more of a fit. nothing subversive here. just my opinion for my particular family and kid. [ Reply | More ]

She's completely transparent. She's the same one claiming in another thread that many Hunter DC admitted for K aren't qualified in the long run. Such axe grinding! [ Reply | More ]

I do like it better from what I know about both. why is this so controversial. you may not think i researched my options carefully enough, but I feel satisfied. didn't really want the commute, and frankly anderson felt like a better fit from the limited info i had. nothing more to it. you sound seriously paranoid. op doesn't want to give the reason, so what? get a life. some people like a school over another. I think that was the point. why so personal? [ Reply | More ]

np. i have to agree with above poster. there is no "complicated" reason. she claims to have done research (though she didn't even bother to test or tour) and based on that, she chose a. nothing complicated about it at all. she just felt like posting something she knew would stir the pot and now that she's being pressed for answers she doesn't really have them. [ Reply | More ]

no. I didn't feel like going into the reasons because of the risk of being flamed for them. sib issue and commute made hunter not worth it to us. that being said, when I compare the "personality" of the 2 school, I much prefer anderson. so what? why on earth would that stir your pot?
