City vs Suburbs... it occurs to me that staying in the city (even with private school tuition for one child) isn't so much more expensive than moving to the suburbs where the schools are good... because the taxes are so high in those places, one has to buy a lawn mower etc etc... We actually moved back to the city b/c it was cheaper (we sold a 3 br house for a 3 br apt, no heating oil and lawn care, replacing roofs, etc.) We paid cash for our apartment, but we bought in a transitional neighborhood where big apartments are still cheap. [ Reply | More ]

taxes aren't high everywhere - it depends. We'd much rather have the luxury of space, a gorgeous house, great schools. THe lawn mower wasn't that costly :) [ Reply | More ]
