How much $$, if anything, do you expect to inherit from your parent(s)? From DH's? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I will probably inherit some property and cash from my parents, nothing from dh's family. we support them. I don't know how much, they aren't rich, but they own a lot of property. [ Reply | More ]

dh's: 0. In fact, they've already cost us over 100k. not expecting anything, but possibly a little (less than 100k). [ Reply | More ]

no idea, but they are pretty young still so by the time they leave us something we better not need it. [ Reply | More ]

My parents are trying to give it to us in small chunks now rather than wait until they are dead. Dad keeps selling off property and investments and giving us a portion as we need it. [ Reply | More ]

dh's are gone, got a token, nothing from mine - they intend to die with a penny in the bank. So do I actually. [ Reply | More ]

there is something to be said for this, I admit. My family is much more about passing it down the generations, and saving a lot, but there does come a point where inherited wealth can be crippling. [ Reply | More ]

that inheritance tax is crippling. i think it is 35% this year, 0% next year, and 50% after that. no kidding [ Reply | More ]

i meant more psychologically crippling. The knowledge that you may inherit lots of money can stop you from trying your hardest in life, which means you won;t succeed in anything [ Reply | More ]

this is my brother in law. Constantly talks about how rich he'll be when his folks die. In the meantime, he's up to his eyeballs in debt and can barely support his family. Meanwhile, his parents are healthy and not that old. DH and I keep telling him his life with his kids may be over before he inherits a dime. [ Reply | More ]

you know its not really something we think about a lot. We live as though its not coming, but if and when it does, it probably will help with college tuitions, our retirement funds, that sort of thing. Its not like we sit around waiting for them to pass on so we can start living. Or running up debts waiting for the inheritance to pay it off or anything. We're self sufficient financially already [ Reply | More ]

dh and i will inherit nothing for sure but we are extremely well off ourselves (really high hhi, lots of savings, etc) we always wonder how others do it and i guess the answer is they are going to inherit a lot. wow. [ Reply | More ]

I actually didn't even count real estate, but there's not much value there. My dad is an antiques collector, but those will likely just be a pain to get rid of... So we will probably get about 5m in cash/investments. We don't live assuming we'll get it at all and will probably just put in to trust for DCs. [ Reply | More ]

I inherited $1 million from my parents, which I am using to support my inlaws. So effectively zilch. Which is fine. We earn enough money to support ourselves. [ Reply | More ]
