I hate my OB. She always gives me a hard time about my weight gain, but I really don't think it is excessive. I am 22 weeks and up 10 pounds. That's not too bad, right? Make me feel better! (And no, I wasn't overweight to start with!) She says you shouldn't gain more than five lbs in the first half of the pregnancy. I don't remember her being this tough in my first pregnancy. Your OB has issues, and I would tell her that directly. [ Reply | More ]

If she is healthy and not overweight, the OB has issues and is not following standard weight gain recs. [ Reply | More ]

I thought it was ~0-5 lbs first trimester, then 1 lb per week after that? Regardless, your weight gain doesn't sound excessive at all. [ Reply | More ]

that sounds totally NUTS to me, to be honest. 10 pounds in 22 weeks seems totally reasonable if you were not overweight before. I know very few people who gained 5 lbs or less in the first half. don't sweat it at all, but maybe think about a new ob if you go for #3 so you don't spend the whole time worrying about your weight without reason- gl. or- actually, screw that. get a new ob now, don't wait for next pg. you don't need that grief (not to mention that I think it evidences that maybe she's not so "up" on her field). [ Reply | More ]

Thanks. Yeah, I strongly considered switching this time because I just don't love here, although I think she gives very good medical care (other than her harping on the weight issue). I ended up staying because it was easier than finding someone new. Now I regret my inertia. [ Reply | More ]

btdt- I did the same thing with my OB for #2- for different reasons, but I swore I'd find a new one before I got pg again and now I'm half way through pg #2 with the same doc. it's hard to switch- I understand. [ Reply | More ]
