19 m.o. DD has been throwing up for about 2.5 hours. Now she's down to just liquid -- can't keep water down -- and dry heaves, whimpering. This is a first for her/us. Anything I should do/worry about/not worry about? We're out of the country and feel a little unmoored. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I think (and I wouldn't just rely on me!) that the main thing to worry about is keeping her hydrated. Give her periodic small sips of water if she can keep it down, or go to pharmacy and see if they have some kind of pedialyte equivalent. [ Reply | More ]

Very serious, imho (risk of dehydration in the little ones is serious). Where are you? If it's someplace with socialized medicine, then call and have a doc come to your house. Otherwise, an emergency room? [ Reply | More ]

Give a wash cloth to suck or frozen pedia pop if you can get it. If she is still throwing up in a few hours, I would go to e/r or doc. [ Reply | More ]

OP: we're in Jerusalem. She just keeps saying she wants to lie down. (It's almost bedtime.) SHe took a few sips of water. Should we just see if she wants to sleep, or is that dangerous in some way? [ Reply | More ]

If she's seriously dehydrated, you don't want her just going to sleep. How are her eyes? Are they sunken? Is her mouth and other mucous membranes moist or dry? [ Reply | More ]

I agree it hasn't been that long, but check for the signs of dehydration before you decide. [ Reply | More ]

A lot of dc can't keep down plain water when they're nauseous. Find her something carbonated, like seltzer, ginger ale, etc. and give it to her in little sips. The bubbles really help their stomach. [ Reply | More ]

Ginger ale is also good because it helps keep dc's blood sugar up. [ Reply | More ]
