At what age must a child start K? DC starting pre-k in fall. Put with class a year younger because of delayed development. DC is 3 now. Does dc go to K at 5 with class he should have been in or at 6 with the class he is in. TIA [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Are you in NYC? If so, and you go to a public school you are supposed to start K the calendar year you turn 5. I believe principals have the right to hold kids back for late K starts. If your child has an IEP when s/he turns 5 and ends up in a CTT or other more restrictive class then they would probably put the child in "K", but I believe the more restrictive classroom have a range of ages/grades in a class.
