3 yo ds is an insane early bird. This morning he graced us at 4:55am. Bedtime is 7:30 (used to be 7 but we pushed it later hoping he would sleep later) and usually he's beyond exhausted and falls right to sleep. We can't get him to sleep past 5am. Any ideas? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

yes, though we've experimented with getting rid of it. the problem is we end up giving in after a few days because he's so dog tired from waking at 5 and not napping! do you think it would help to stop the nap? [ Reply | More ]

thanks. maybe i should just try it and not give in to the nap this time. will be a bit painful but i suppose i could move his bedtime earlier temporarily until he adjusts... [ Reply | More ]

so do you put them down early or late? i always think if he'd gone to bed earlier at least he'd be getting more hours of sleep... [ Reply | More ]

try adding naps back in. My kids do this when they are overtired... sleep begets sleep. [ Reply | More ]

i know this is true which is why i always had an early bedtime for him (even though my friends thought it was nuts). maybe i should start by moving the bedtime back to 6:45 or 7 and let him nap when he seems to need it? and see what happens? [ Reply | More ]

My nieces were like this. They are still very early risers. I think SIL got a big digital clock and put it in their room and told them they could play in the room but not leave until the clock read 6:00. It worked for them. [ Reply | More ]

thanks - we did that actually. worked for a few months but he refuses to stay in his bed now. i know that's a disclipline issue that we could probably tackle but his baby brother is now in the same room and i would rather he not stay there from 5 to 6 making noise and wake the baby too.
