What age do I start sending my kid to pre-k classes? Am considering both public and private, and I see that public accepts at age 4 --- is it worthwhile to send her to a program at 2 years old? TIA. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

no, not necessary, but not hurtful either. Mom might meet other parents have playdates, etc. [ Reply | More ]

I say a 2's program is definitely worth it. And if you're a SAHM, you also get a little break. [ Reply | More ]

all preschool is private. public school starts with pre-k, but not all public schools offer a pre-k program. [ Reply | More ]

depends. I would imagine that public is fairly standardized, but private can do whatever they want [ Reply | More ]

most pre-ks are focused more on socialization. it's to prep kids for real school [ Reply | More ]

also, although all (I believe) public schools offer a K program, attendance is not mandatory. [ Reply | More ]

pre-k is for 4yo, some public schools have them, some don't. the govt. offers universal pre-k to everyone at various community based organizations like churches, the Y, etc. [ Reply | More ]

My experience is that preschool really makes sense only at 3 years of age and up. Unless you are going to choose a full-day program for your 2yo in lieu of having a nanny I'd say definitely go for it. Otherwise save that money and wait for a 3s program. [ Reply | More ]
