Crazy busy day, kids' stuff - DCs each won a goldfish at local fair and I put them in temp tank with fresh water. used to live in city/everything open late and now in burbs, couldn't find anything open past 6 pm -- so I crushed up kelp and fed it to the fish until tomorrow morning when I can go to pet store. also, I read that I really need a 10+ gallon rectangular tank with filtration system. true or false? DCs would be devastated if they died. I'm good with pets, just need some tips [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

They'll live until the morning. Go to petco and buy the 10gallon system. [ Reply | More ]

thanks!!! You should have seen me, driving to two neigboring towns to see if any late night CVS open, I ended up taking kelp from my Japanese cooking cuisine ingredients, crushing it into a powder [ Reply | More ]

not big enough for two fish, they say -- it's surface area with oxygen intake that is critical, not the volume of the tank [ Reply | More ]

it is. we've had our three living in there for months. key is change water/filter regularly. and when you change the water, let it sit overnight before putting it into the bowl. [ Reply | More ]

thanks, much appreciated. I was reading about the ammonia from their poop and any leftover food, and how goldfish die an awful death if you don't keep the water clean enough.......i want to avoid this [ Reply | More ]

better if you get a bottom feeder in addition to the goldfish. a shrimp will get rid of leftover food/poop. speak with them in the store, they can direct you (but don't let them scare you into overbuying). [ Reply | More ]
