So my Motherinlaw always makes comments that my 2 1/2 yr old needs to eat (like at 11:59am) and comments that my gaughter is too skinny and buys her donuts/cookies/croissants..and seems food obsessed in general. My MIL is overweight as are her 3 sons(my husbadn included).. what do I do/say? Its a very touchy subject but she is OBSESSED. As soon as she gets to my house, whenevr she visits, she ALWAYS says, " I havent eaten yet, I need to get lunch." Its weird. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Sounds like she uses food to console herself. Ignore her. [ Reply | More ]

Yes, but isnt she going to give my little girl a complex? Or is bi-weekly damage not enough to worry about. [ Reply | More ]

Bi-weekly is a lot. If she can hear it, let her know that your ped thinks she is a healthy weight but cautions against too many commercial baked goods. Show MIL that DD can have any of X healthy foods you have in your house (carrots, cheese, whole-grain crackers, etc.), but that any more than one treat (couple cookies, donut, etc.) is too much. Yes. The only way i win arguments with my mom or MIL is to pull the pediatriciant weight. [ Reply | More ]

I understand. My ILs are the same way (fatties, all of them). Fortunately, I don't see them often, but when I do I bring my own snack bags for the girls. [ Reply | More ]

This is such an EXCELLENT idea. I will bring foods with me when I go up there..she always starts cooking the most HORRIBLE Butter-encrusted, 0 vegetable items.. I'll pack the broccolli. [ Reply | More ]

I have a 2.5yo and I make her meals and she chooses what and how much to eat off the plate. Relatives are always trying to do a song and dance to make her eat but I stop them. I say that she knows when she's hungry and if it's not at this meal, she'll make up for it at the next. I don't mind junk food in moderation but if it gets to be too much I accept their treats on her behalf and save them for another time or dump them after they leave the house. [ Reply | More ]

Mine does this too. Constantly watches food network and talks about food. Borderline obsessive. But actually does not overeat and is not fat. [ Reply | More ]
