re: potty training: a lot of you suggested that I stop trying to train my DD and go back to diapers for a while. My problem is I can't see doing this without really confusing/disappointing her. She has so much invested in the sticker-reward system and all the routines we set up (dump potty! flush! wash hands! she says excitedly). So how do I explain when all that just goes away? If I am to go back to diapers, how do I make that work for her?????? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Try staying in for a few days and leaving her in her underwear. She'll pick up fast. [ Reply | More ]

her accidents have been when she's just in her underwear hanging around the house (earlier post I explained she was peeing in her underwear a lot when I went to nurse the baby, seems like a bid for attention) [ Reply | More ]

How about she only wears the diaper when you nurse? [ Reply | More ]

Just clean her up and put on fresh undies and tell her the potty should be used in the future. Maybe have her "help" change the baby's diapers - so she'll feel like she's getting some attention and superior in that area. [ Reply | More ]

well, i've cleaned her up and said that about a million times by now... that's why i came on here asking for other solutions, and was told by more than one person to go back to diapers. [ Reply | More ]

Patience is a virtue. Back and forth between diapers is confusing - sending mixed messages. Be firm and patient. [ Reply | More ]

thanks. that was the perspective i began with, but after hearing from so many that i should go back, i question it. frankly i don't think either option is ideal. [ Reply | More ]

What other choice do you have? [ Reply | More ]

the two choices are 1.) go back to diapers 2.) soldier on with the system i'm using. choice three would be to tweak the system somehow but no one seemed to think i was doing anything wrong that needed to be tweaked so much as that maybe dd was just too stressed out by the sibling to be ready. I had twins and didn't have such a problem. Make a decision and stick to it. [ Reply | More ]

not relevant -- twins have always known they were twins, they don't have the stress of a new sibling. And I am planning on making a decision and sticking with it -- you are seeing me in the midst of the process of deciding. [ Reply | More ]

Extremely relevant had 3rd child while potty training get your ass in gear and take a stand. [ Reply | More ]

Are you the OP whose DD wet her pants for attention? If so, then you explain that the "accidents" show she isn't quite ready to go without diapers yet. After a day or two of diapers, ask her if she's ready. [ Reply | More ]

yup, that's me. i'm not sure she has the language to understand "ready for underwear." she's pretty much an in-the-moment kid still, we're still working on concepts like "tomorrow." if I take the underwear away, she'll experience it (I think) as if they're just gone completely. [ Reply | More ]
