Need suggestions for best way to eliminate 2.5yo dc's nap over the summer. He will be attending preschool in September from 1-3:30. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

are you serious? Our 3.8 year old still naps. naps are important for brain development. Why would you want to do this. At my ds's preschool he still naps from 1-2pm each day. Why are you doing this? [ Reply | More ]

do you live in nyc? unless you are a sibling, you will most likely be stuck with an afternoon class. if he doesn't nap he will sleep 12 hours at night which I think is what all my sleep books describe as normal daily sleep for this age. [ Reply | More ]

I gave my son a bath when he felt tired. It perked him up. [ Reply | More ]

really? my 3.5 yo is in full day preschool and they have 'rest/nap time' 1-3 every day and said it was mandated by ny state law. Are you not in ny? [ Reply | More ]

I am. It is only a 2-3 hour class at this age, so no naps. [ Reply | More ]

np: we're in NYC too and there is a mandated 1 hr quiet time for the 3's room my son is in. This is a weird time for a class anyway, given the natural pattern that causes most kids in this age group to nap at this time. [ Reply | More ]

Oh, that is so hard. Try moving his nap earlier? Maybe move the whole day? Put him to bed an hour earlier, wake him up an hour earlier? Naptime an hour earlier? You can do this in 15-minute increments. Good luck. [ Reply | More ]

have him nap earlier...mine was a mess until we figured this out. DD had an early lunch and a 45 minute stroller nap, waking up at pre-school. We tried to have her nap after school (and she coudl nap late on non-school days) but she was really cranky in class. [ Reply | More ]

an earlier nap would not work for my ds - as it is he wakes up at approx 7am and won't nap until 2pm some days. will not be able to make him nap as early as 11am. [ Reply | More ]

I would have said the same thing...our plan was for dd to nap after school! Try that instead....we liked having a happy kid in the evening as we both worked at the time. Good luck! [ Reply | More ]

Even quiet time will help. Put him down at 11 or 11:30 and leave him with some books and soft toys for an hour. After a while, he'll get the idea and nap occasionally. [ Reply | More ]
