Are ceiling fans cheesy? I'm trying to find ways to cool our place this summer since I found out that Con Ed is raising their rates. I'm scared of floor fans because we have a toddler in the house (or am I being paranoid?) [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

LOL! Yeah - think 80's. Avoid the white painted ones too. They make some really nice ones now [ Reply | More ]

well, according to ub armoires are unbearably pedestrian as well, so take advice with a grain of salt. [ Reply | More ]

I think they are unbearable cheesy. Blocking out the sun coming in through from windows can really help keep cooling costs down. My mom had a rule that the AC only went on after 3pm. Visit the local Starbucks or hang at sprinklers as much as possible. Take cold showers [ Reply | More ]

not at all. just go for simple designs. No brass, no etched glass, no wrought iron etc. [ Reply | More ]

I think they are really cheesy. The first thing I did when I moved into my house is rip out the ceiling fan and put in a beautiful light fixture. The couple before us had at least bothered to go with a "colonial/antiqued" looking fan to sort-of match our old colonial house in Boston (though colonial houses didn't have ceiling fans). It still looked cheesy, and made the ceiling look so much lower. [ Reply | More ]

ceiling fans are fine. i mean, don't get one with blades shaped like palm fronds or anything, but otherwise, totally okay. [ Reply | More ]
