dh and i are both lawyers - i know a lot of women with JDs who left law to sahm. usually when dh is biglaw. in my dh's practice group there is not a single wife who works and about 5 of them also have JDs. [ Reply | More ]

my friend's father isthe managing partner in a medium sized law firm, not in nyc, and told us one night that he refuses to hire women anymore since they all leave the workforce. he will do it because he has to, but doesn't like to go all out in recruiting, etc. I was horrified. [ Reply | More ]

I see his point. He's better off hiring the ones whose kids are already in school [ Reply | More ]

Do they plan to ever practice law? Sounds like such a waist of money if they don't do something in the general field [ Reply | More ]

whether it is a waste is for them to decide. i used to practice and now sah and doubt i will return. i don't consider it a waste since if dh every left me at least i have education that qualifies me to earn decent money. [ Reply | More ]

i'd probably try to get something with the government or start doing some freelance work. i have a lot of friends who are lawyers and i have done a little contract work over the years. that aside, it's really not for you to saw that someone's education was wasted because they aren't doing with it what you would be doing.
