Seriously, why is it such a no no to let my 2 yo DD sip a drink of my soda if I drink one? I usually don't drink soda (maybe once a week or every other week) and if I do, she'll want to try and I give her a sip. Is that really so bad? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

It's definitely not a necessary component of anyone's diet, that is for sure. [ Reply | More ]

but a sip every other week? it's not going to harm DD at all. it's not like i give her soda to drink. she mostly drinks water, milk and watered down apple juice [ Reply | More ]

It's actually pretty easy if you have an ice cream maker. My girlfriend does and it is heavenly in the summer. Fresh peaches! [ Reply | More ]

Soda (and liquid calories in general - coffee drinks, alcoholic drinks) contributes to the obesity problem far more than ice cream does. [ Reply | More ]

I would say the lack of moderation contributes to the obesity problem far more than anything else does. This woman has one glass of soda every 2 weeks. She's not on the path to obesity by her soda habit alone. [ Reply | More ]

no. just think about the things we ate and breathed in when we were young children. i would think the only bad thing would be allowing her to develop a "taste" for it. [ Reply | More ]

eh. i guess i'm not too concerned. i don't ever buy it for the house, only if I am out and about and i don't have water on me. [ Reply | More ]

i know! for the most part, if DD wants to eat something that i am eating or drinking in front of her, i'll let her try it. unless it is alcholic (which it won't be since i dont drink) or soda with caffeine. i dont' eat very poorly, but will occasionally indulge in bad for you food. I cook very nutritious meals for DD, so why not let her have a taste of soda or eat a potato chip once in a while?? I think it's healthy to let your child understand that there are foods that you eat every day and some that you only have once in a while. [ Reply | More ]

exactly! my mom barely bought junk food, but she would OCCASIONALLY. that is why i don't buy lots of junk food now, but i will get some now and then. it's all about teaching your kids not to eat bad things. then they'll grow up to make healthy decisions. [ Reply | More ]

that is it exactly. a bit of soda is not going to hurt her, but now she knows that she likes it. I gave my ds soda for the first time when he was 4yo and had a stomach virus (his ped said to give it to him since he wouldn't drink pedialyte, gatorade, etc), and he didn't like the taste. It was very foreign to him. [ Reply | More ]

i guess so. but i also guess i don't really care if she has a taste for it or not because i don't buy it in the house. [ Reply | More ]

the sip every couple of weeks isn't going to hurt her, but it would have been better not to introduce it at all. [ Reply | More ]

Why would you, though? Makes no sense. Would you give her hot coffee, just because you were drinking it and she wanted some? [ Reply | More ]
