I hate this response. A name can be whatever the parents choose it to be. Just because it's not something you've heard of as a proper name doesn't mean it's not a name. Is there a registered book of all names? Even webster's adds new words each edition - names can be new, too. [ Reply | More ]

oh, then why did you attempt to correct me? there are websites you can look up - they'll tell you that Ellie is a nickname for a proper name like Elanore or whatever happens to be the case [ Reply | More ]

But who/what is the authority on proper names? Someone, somewhere made up all names. I mean, Madison wasn't a name until they used it in Splash - now it's a "real" name. [ Reply | More ]

yeah, Madison was a surname and people adopted it as a family name, then it was bastardized [ Reply | More ]

Then you are saying that any name chosen is a "real" name - so you're response that it's "not a name" is wrong. [ Reply | More ]

search a name and you'll get the derivation [ Reply | More ]

So, if there's no derivation, then it's not a real name? That's absurd. That would mean that any "new" name isn't a name. I stand by my statement above, that even the Webster's dictionary adds new words. So, having said that, if Ellie becomes a popular name, then it would be "real". [ Reply | More ]
