2.7 YO Ds has a new bad habit of crying/whining. Started when 3 wk old sister came home from hospital. I know why he is doing it, but it drives me crazy. How to respond that is caring/understanding but also makes it stop? Any ideas? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

i tell my dd to use her big girl voice to ask for things. in terms of response to sibling, you could try offering him some "baby time" when you hold him in your arms and talk to him like a baby (not mocking). usually this is pretty satisfying and they want less than you fear. congrats, btw! hang in there, it takes a LONG time. You can say evenly "I can't understand you when you whine" and ignore until he uses a normal voice, but fwiw, I still have to do this w/ a 4 yo, so keep your expectations low. [ Reply | More ]
