I have a stupid question, please don't flame me. I have a 4 week old dd who breaks out of every swaddle we try to get her in. We bought the Swaddle Me things and she busted out of those too. I have seen posts here about the Miracle Blanket and the Aden&Anais blankets, and they all look great but...are there any moms here who didn't swaddle their newborns? What did they sleep in? PJ's? I know a blanket in the crib is not an option, but we want her to be comfortable at night. Short of having her sleep in her swing for the next few months, DH and I are struggling to find a solution. TIA. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

can your DB sleep w/o swaddling? i never swaddled my first 2 dc's and they slept fine. in a swing for the first month or so, but so what? it's ok to sleep in a swing. it's more similar to the fetal position they were in, in utero. that's why they like it :) [ Reply | More ]

My dc was the same way. It turns out that his body temperature is higher than average. To date he sleeps with light blanket even in the dead of winter. But the worst, he told me when he was older, was having his feet covered. Try putting on an extra layer of clothing on dc's top. I believe the belly is the most vulnerable to cold. Good luck! miracle blanket is FAR better than the swaddle me which my db broke out of too. But I stopped swaddling around 1 month anyway. I used the sleep sack over footed pjs - now that it's warmer, db just sleeps in a one piece pj [ Reply | More ]

why do you people insist on swaddling. some babies like it some don't. yours doesn't so give it up and tune in to your db. [ Reply | More ]

seriously. all of you suggesting buying tighter and tighter blankets are nuts. the kid doesn't like it. [ Reply | More ]

you cannot measure a newborn's like or dislike of something; the swaddle actually replicates the feeling in the womb (the "fourth trimester"), although the db's nature may be to "fight" it, but that is not related to the swaddling but the overall feeling of needing containment [ Reply | More ]

not eveyr newborn needs this "containment" and yes children do have preferences that early. parents need to match their style/actions to cues db's provide [ Reply | More ]

well, probably not every one, but what she's describing is typical. Harvey Karp seems right on target with this [ Reply | More ]

or here: don't know these people and have not read on the subject. but it seems pretty obvious to me that some kids are comforted by being contained and others are not. I think it is weird to try deal with any dc, babies ncluded as if they are all the same, and all like anything. you need to tune into your baby and try different things, finding what works. I am on number 4, btw. [ Reply | More ]

I would say if they cry, wake up or kick off a swaddle, you certainly can say they don't like it and are not comforted by it. [ Reply | More ]

my two month old hated being swaddled. we also used a sleep sack and only swaddled when he was fussy. dwell studio for target has a great quality sleep sack. [ Reply | More ]

my ds used to get one arm out of every swaddle. It is no big deal. Get a sleep bag. Swaddling ends relatively quickly soon and is not a requirement of parenting. Enjoy! They grow so fast [ Reply | More ]

My dd hated being swaddled. Absolutely HATED it. Would scream nonstop every time we tried. So we put her in PJs to sleep, made sure the room was a good temp, and she was fine. No big deal. [ Reply | More ]
