i got various ticks off family members when they all went for a walk in the countryside - does anyone know somewhere I can send them to be tested? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

don't know that, but watch for a red circle around the bite... [ Reply | More ]

no need. Google tick and it will tell you what to look for. As long as you got them off quickly, it's is very very unlikely anyone will get anything [ Reply | More ]

You don't need to go to all that trouble. Were they deer ticks or regular ticks? Lime is found in deer ticks - - watch for a bullseye around the bite site (very very easy to spot) [ Reply | More ]

I wouldn't freak out too much but you don't always get a rash. You can do a blood test for the bacteria that causes Lyme disease, but your health insurance might not cover it. I did for my 6yo after he got a weird oval rash (but no bullseye) because we live in a high-risk/lots of deer area. It was $250, plenty painful for a 6yo (two full vials of blood from arm) but worth it for the piece of mind (negative) though he could still develop it at any time. (And I imagine its unlikely you'd have a high reading of the bacteria a day or two after being bit) [ Reply | More ]
