If you had a genetic predisposition to a certain type of cancer - and the cancer could be avoided by having a major surgery in early adulthood - would you and DH conceive a child knowing that your kid would have a 1 in 4 chance of having this gene, and therefore having to deal with the risk/surgery? np, lol invitro fertilization (test tube baby) and they do a genetic screening on the embryos and don't implant the ones that have what you fear (if there is a test for the gene) [ Reply | More ]

You can't make a decision about having children based on one issue: a fear of cancer. your child could have countless deformities and numerous crisis in their life. We all roll the dice when we procreate. If you want to be a parent with your partner, be a parent. If you don't, don't. [ Reply | More ]

I know you are upset and its a really tough time for you. Many of us have precanceroous polyps. And many of us have the 'cancer gene' and don't even know it. Don't let one thing define your husband, your life, your choices. Not one person on this thread has told you not to have children. That should mean something. [ Reply | More ]
