My sister has a horrible case of hives, worst her md said she's ever seen! She's taking topical corticosteroids and oral antihistamines and it's not getting better. Started after she stayed at a hotel. Any ideas? Md said it didn't look like bites of any kind ... wdyt? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

If it was the worst the doctor's ever seen, she would have given sister a shot of steroids and followed them with some oral steroids for the next week. We just had this happen with DS last week. [ Reply | More ]

Doctor told us if you don't interrupt the cycle, the hives can last past when your body gets rid of the irritant (like it kicks in some sort of immune system haywire). She must be miserable. [ Reply | More ]

She is sooo miserable. Dh says it doesn't look like hives, it's not really raised, but must be some sort of contact dermatitis from something she used at the hotel, she used their soaps and creams too. [ Reply | More ]

Thanks for asking. He's doing much better. The allergist says the ER docs were wrong and it was an environmental allergy, not a food allergy - we are going to do scratch tests once he's completely off the steroids. [ Reply | More ]

she may want to see an allergist. i had allergic reaction to something one night right after I had my db. no idea what it was, went to er, my lung was collapsing, had awful hives-they were the reason i went to er. allergist did testing and was able to tell me what allergy was, gave me epi pen, etc and I go back for follow up visits periodically. yeah, I know. i had eaten them my whole life too-dr said that this happens sometimes if someone has allergies in family (which we do) and after a pg, body can be so out of wack. dr also said beans are part of same family as peanuts, so I have to watch what I eat and what I give to my kids [ Reply | More ]
