Did I over-react? DD was playing quietly by herself (she is 2) and these two older boys came over to play with trucks. One of them decides to push DD away and I said "hey! don't push her! it's not nice to push, especially kids that are smaller than you" in the same tone I tell DD when she gets aggressive (my mean mommy voice). the other mom saw what happened (she was sitting about 10 ft away) and didn't say anything to her son. DD then decided she wanted to play with the boy and I told her not to, because he wasn't being nice to her. Afterwards, I thought I might have over-reacted a bit. Oh well. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

No, you're fine. You have to run interference at that age. don't over think it. [ Reply | More ]

I would have done the same thing, but I would have glared at his mom for not saying a thing. [ Reply | More ]

ok thx. i wouldn't have used my mean mommy tone if he wasn't older and DD was playing there in the first place! i think the mom was mad at me or something. [ Reply | More ]

i'd only be upset as the mom of the older boy if you hadn't given me a chance to step in and correct my ds. [ Reply | More ]

I think you were fine with the first, but over the top with the second. Children push, especially boys push. You rebuke and then you let it go. If were continuing to be aggressive, however, then you should prevent her interacting with him. But if he wasn't, then you should have let them play. [ Reply | More ]

Then you should have said that the big kids want to play with each other right now and distracted her. I'm not trying to rebuke you. This will happen again. [ Reply | More ]

how much older were the boys? b/c if they were 4, i'd say you didn't over-react. but if they were 2.5, you're a little bit crazy. [ Reply | More ]

in my opinion it's ok that you said not nice to push. but not ok that you told her not to play with him, if she wanted to. [ Reply | More ]
