I heard something today that broke my heart. Dh had a "networking" lunch with a woman we both know fairly well 10 yrs ago. She has 4 ds. I knew that the third was disabled but not how severe it is. She told dh that this son (about 8 y/o) had to be placed in a school upstate last Sept. and that the whole family went into counseling about it. She was heavily medicated and not communicating well. What kind of hell is this? The thought of having to do this with a child is so overwhelming I can't stop thinking about her. If I feel sorry for myself again to soon [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

My cousin and family are in the same situation except that they choose to not institutionalize their son. Forty years on, the family is in shambles, both parents are now manic. It is a very difficult life either way. [ Reply | More ]
