My two year old just had a tantrum because she wanted to be carried home from the playground. She banged her head on the concrete and gave herself a big bruise on her head. She did this twice before I relented and carried her home. She was so angry she was shaking. Is this normal or does she need professional help? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

my 18 mo gets like this... it is very difficult, b/c I don't want her to hurt herself... I have actually ducked during her tirades! I heard my husband was "intense" as a child, so I am thinking she will grow out of it if in fact it becomes anything beyond normal toddlerdom... [ Reply | More ]

op: yes, her reactions seem more "intense" than your average toddler. Then I googled "self injurious behavior in toddlers" and research associated it with psych problems. Should I be worried? [ Reply | More ]

It is normal and be firm in not putting up with it (to hell what anyone watching thinks). The sooner you show dd that it is not to be tolerated; she will start to use other methods to express herself. [ Reply | More ]
