can anyone who has done the atkins diet counsel me for a minute? i just started today. i'm a vegetarian so i have to be a little more strict than the avg person, i guess, but it seems doable. i work out with a trainer a couple times a week and run on my own two other days about 3 miles each time. if i increase that and do atkins, how much weight do you think i could realistically lose in two months. currently 5'2" and 135 pounds, super curvy. tia for any thoughts or tips. i am stunned that you weigh so much to be honest. you work out and are a vegetarian. be honest - are you eating too much sugar, drinking too many calories, eating late at night, eating fried food? you may be able to make slight diet adjustments w/o going atkins. [ Reply | More ]

Sorry, but I, too am a vegetarian and I'm 5'9" and weigh 155 lbs. I could stand to lose maybe 10 lbs, b/c when I weigh less than 145 lbs, I look silly. Everybody is different; and by the way, I eat great but don't exercise as much as I used to. It's hard to go by someone's weight to know if they are too heavy. [ Reply | More ]

or - i am a vegetarian too and op clearly thinks she needs to lose weight, i was not judging her height/weight - was simply taking her word for it that she must need to lose weight! [ Reply | More ]

op. how would you, as a vegetarian, go about losing weight. for me, adding protein (not necessarily cutting carbs) seems to make me lose weight...but slowly [ Reply | More ]

well, 120 looks really thin on me and i'm a size 2 or even a 0 at that weight so i don't think i'm obese, but i was stuck in a situation at work that made me so sedentary and meant that i wasn't getting enough sleep for about 8 months. i was really bad about not eating all day and then coming home and trying to force feed myself nutritious things. i think my metabolism is a bit shot. maybe the wweight will just come off gradually now that i'm active again, but i'd like to jump start it. Trainer here - be really careful with atkins - remember this was designed for the really heavy folks who have had no success and is VERY restrictive and over the long term detrimental to your liver and kidneys. Instead of increasing your workouts - increase your INTENSITY on the runs - lift some heavier weights - talk with your trainer more - unless they are advising you to do atkins - which would make me suspicious of them actually. Safely you should look at losing 1 to 2lbs per week - if you have a well qualified trainer who knows you and your body you should not be asking a random sample of mommies you should be discussing this with a professional. I appreciate that as a petite person you feel heavy at this weight but - I'd need to see you to assess anything else. [ Reply | More ]
