Please share your $ saving ideas, even if they only save a few pennies and seem ridiculous (this post not for mommies with $), I'm in a crunch and desperate. Here are some of the insane things I'm doing beyond the obvious no more mani/pedis no eating out, I know it sounds stupid but: cutting my bounce dryer sheets in half, buying that "mom's best" cereal (it is actually very good and very cheap), trying not to leave lights on, etc. Please share some insane things you have done to save a buck, it might be inspirational to me right now. Don't buy newspapers or magazines -- read them online. Drink tap water, rather than other beverages. Walk, instead of taking public transportation. Bring lunch to work rather than buying it. [ Reply | More ]

cancel subscriptions, look through your bank statement to make sure there are no unfamiliar charges for things you accidentally signed up for, call the cable company and see if you can reduce your phone/internet/tv price somehow, call credit card companies and see if they'll reduce your interest, i feel like cereal is really expensive - can you buy it from the bulk containers at whole foods or a coop?, bring a reusable bottle for tea or coffee or water wherever you go, if the weather is nice, dry things out on a laundry line instead of running the dryer (if you have a yard), play outside while the suns out and leave the lights off [ Reply | More ]

It's $220 startup. It syncs with tv shows you buy from iTunes. It allows you to buy every tv show for $1.99. So, if you're not big tv watchers (we're not) -- it's much cheaper. THen, you still have the basic channels when you buy an antenna ($30 -- this is not Mac TV). [ Reply | More ]

We save money on phone bills by signing up for the most basic telephone service: no long-distance. They call it emergency basic or something like that. We use a Walmart phone card for all long-distance and it is only 5 cents a minute. [ Reply | More ]

Have you tried the $5 bill thing ? You just never spend a fiver... find a jar or a box or drawer and put every $5 at the end of the day there... soon you'll be amazed at what you have. My dh and i did it last year and were shocked ! [ Reply | More ]

Your electric company probably charges you cheaper rates during the night, so this is a great time to run appliances like a dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, etc. With us, after 8 p.m. is cheaper and then again after midnight is the cheapest. So you can set the timer and let it go off then. [ Reply | More ]
