Please help me with my decision about going back to work. I really need thoughts of both sahms and wohms. Should I quit my fairly well-paying job in education that gives summers/school holidays off and stay home w/my 3yo and 1yo? in order to do this, I will have to depend on getting freelance editing work and trusting that I'll make enough money and find enough time to do it. wwyd? I hate to leave the kids in daycare every day, esp. because 3yo has a medical issue. Please help! [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

i have been there. woh f/t, woh in education with a school schedule, and also was a sahm. for me, i think if you have a well paying job with the school schedule, it's worth it to keep. sure, i'd love to be a sahm. but if you are going to have to get a job anyway, might as well stick to what you have. at least, that's been my experience. I WOH full time though with a relatively flexible schedule, and have been SAHM, and my two cents would be that even though it is hard at first to leave a little one in someone else's care, in the long run I'm so glad to have a career now that DS is in school. Yes, I could SAH and serve on parent-teacher things, but I like also having an identity that's all my own and not just being "mom". Being my DS's mom is, of course, to me the most important role, but I like having lots of parts of me that are not defined by being his mom. I tried work from home, and I never found it worked well -- I wasn't able to give DS or my work full attention when I was home... [ Reply | More ]
