Your dc is having a playdate at my house and is playing with my dc in the yard. Your dc is hitting a young sapling tree of ours with a big stick, stripping the bark and breaking branches. I ask him to stop. He says, "You're not my mom," and continues whacking the tree. What would you want me to do in that situation? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

tell him again to stop it and that you will put him in time out and tell his mom if he doesn't. [ Reply | More ]

tell him that mothers aren't the only ones who can help a child, or discipline him. Teachers, nannies, or simply the adult in charge. If the mom left the child with you, you are the adult in child. Tell the kid that and tell the mom what he said. [ Reply | More ]

call me and tell me what my child is doing and that you don't want to discipline him yourself any furhter without discussing it me, but you would really like him to stop ruining your tree. And ask me how i would like to handle it. If I do not respond the way you want (ie either I am comiing over or give you persmission to give him a time out) then you should ask me to come get my kid. This one. Followed by removing the kids from the backyard, and having the child tell his mother when she picks him up. [ Reply | More ]

You go over and remove the stick from his hands. When he is not looking, flip him the bird. Done. [ Reply | More ]

Ask him to stop again. Explain you are the adult in charge. If can not stop will not be allowed to play in yard or playdate will have to end. Definitely tell the parents. I would want to know. [ Reply | More ]

definately old enough to be following the directions of another adult. Follow the advice of removing the children from the yard, and tell the mother when she picks him up. I agree that you should call the mom sooner if he continues to disobey you. [ Reply | More ]

hybrid of above. First, take the stick away. Then explain the rules of your house. If he doesn't apologize and make nice, call me. I'll talk to him. (Short of hitting him repeatedly with the stick, you can do what you like.) [ Reply | More ]
